MARION COUNTY, situated on the south boundary of Mississippi, and traversed by Pearl river. Area, 1,476 square miles. Face of the country hilly; soil mostly barren. Seat of justice, Columbia. Pop. in 1820, 3,116; in 1830, 3,701; in 1840, 3,830; in 1850, 4,410.
