SHELBY COUNTY, situated at the southwest corner of Tennessee, with Mississippi river on the west. Area, 600 square miles. Face of the country, hilly; soil, of good quality. Seat of justice, Raleigh. Pop. in 1820, 354; in 1830, 5,648; in 1840, 14,721; in 1850, 31,157.
