Davis’ Subjects Dumpish and Disgusted.
Dictator Davis is in danger of dethronement, because, as it seems, he dallies, drones and drags. He must drop all these diabolical “d’s,’ or funct. The latest Southern papers generally confirm the impression made by Russell’s last letter, that the rebels are despondent; but the following extract from the Mobile Mercury shows them to be almost despairing:
A revolution can never be successful but by a vigorous prosecution. The dallying policy of our Government can result only in evil to our cause – If it is determined to push forward this war to a successful issue, a new policy must be inaugurated. The people, as well as the soldiers, are becoming impatient at this delay, and already murmuring, not loud but deep, are being hard all over the land.
