Face of the country diversified with valleys, hills, and mountains; soil rich and well cultivated. Seat of justice, Poughkeepsie. Pop. in 1810, 41,141; in 1820, 46,615; in 1830, 50,926; in 1840, 52,398; in 1850, 58,992.
