The World Begins to Know Us.

The London Herald, in the following extract, shows that light is breaking on the vision of Europeans, in regard to the real power and greatness of the Free States of this country:

As with the armies, so it is with the nations. The Northern superiority in numbers, wealth and resources of every kind, is undeniable and enormous. Man for man they are three to two. White for white, they are two to one. They are next to England, probably the richest nation in the world. They could afford, without fear [of?] absolute deficiency of means, probably without inflicting half the suffering on their own people that they will inflict on ours, to carry on the civil war for many years to come, if they choose. They have men and money in abundance, if they are careless what amount of blood and treasure the war may cost them.

While such opinions are entertained of us by the British public, it is not likely the English Government will venture a war with us for anything less than such an outrage as no nation could overlook. The capture of the rebel envoys is not such a case and while we have “men and money in abundance,” and can build ships as fast as any other nation, the British Government will hesitate about interfering in this matter between us and our rebellious citizens.
