Confederate Brigadier General Lewis Henry Little falls to rifle fire during the Battle of Iuka

Baltimore born and a West Point graduate, Confederate Brigadier General Lewis Henry Little had risen to become General Sterling Price's most dependable officer. During the late afternoon fighting at the Battle of Iuka in Mississippi, Little was at Price's side when he was hit with a single bullet that pierced his eye.  He died instantly. His body was recovered, carried away in the Confederate retreat, and eventually buried in Green Mount Cemetery in his home city.  (By John Osborne)
