Cavanaugh, James Michael

Much traveled lawyer and journalist who sat in Congress before the Civil War for Minnesota and for two terms after as the non-voting representative from Montana.  Notorious for being the purported originator of the phrase, "The only good Indian is a dead Indian," during comments at the Capitol in May 1868.
