Headnote

AUBURN, A post village of Lincoln county, Union township, situated on the Cuivre river, 11½ miles from Troy, the county seat, 65 miles from St. Louis, and 135 from Jefferson City.  There is a stage route to Troy, and another to Bowling Green, which is 20 miles distant.  Auburn contains an Academy, a Masonic Lodge, viz: Auburn, No. 14, a Cumberland Presbyterian, and Methodist churches.  The chief products are wheat , corn, and tobacco.  Timber -- oak, ash, hickory, and elm.  The average price of cultivated land is $30 per acre, and uncultivated $15.  Population 250. (The Missouri State Gazetteer and Business Directory, 1860)
