CURRITUCK COUNTY, situated at the northeast part of North Carolina, divided by Currituck sound, and comprehending Currituck inland. Area, 600 square miles. Face of the country level; soil generally sandy and barren, but much of it is profitably cultivated with rice. Seat of justice, Currituck. Pop. in 1820, 8,090; in 1830, 7,654; in 1840, 6,703; in 1850, 7,236.

CRAVEN COUNTY, situated on the southeast part of North Carolina, and traversed by the river Neuse. Area, 1,100 square miles. Face of the country generally flat; soil in part sandy and marshy. Seat of justice, Newbern. Pop. in 1820, 13,394; in 1830, 13,734; in 1840, 14,438; in 1850, 14,709.

Face of the country flat; soil in general of middling quality, but in some parts swampy. Seat of justice, Edenton. Pop. in 1820, 6,464; in 1830, 6,688; in 1840, 6,690; in 1850, 6,721.
