Face of the country generally flat, and partially subject to annual inundation. Seat of justice Harrisonburgh. Pop. in 1830, 2,581; in 1840, 4,955; in 1850, 6,982.

The surface is level, and annually overflowed; the soil fertile and well-suited for cotton and sugar-cane. Courts are held at Donaldsonville. Pop., in 1840, 6,951; in 1850, 10,752.
