On the Sacramento River, a steamboat blows a boiler and more than fifty people are killed

The Yosemite was a large paddlesteamer operating for the California Steam Navigation Company in northern California.  She had just sailed in the early evening from the Sacramenta River landing at Rio Vista when a boiler exploded. Destruction was heavy and up to fifty people were killed, including many cabin passengers and Chinese workers travelling on deck. A repaired Yosemite served many more years in California waters.  (By John Osborne)
