Anthony Burns is arrested in Boston as a fugitive slave
Charles Suttle, Burns' owner, traveled to Boston in May 1854 to reclaim his property. Under the stipulations of the fugitive slave law, Suttle obtained an arrest warrant from U.S. Commissioner Edward G. Loring. Burns was apprehended on a false charge and imprisoned on May 24, 1854.
