Famed Mexican Republican guerrilla leader, Manuel Garcia Pueblita, is killed in central Mexico

With the rebellion against Emperor Maximillian gaining in momentum, Republican forces had been making gains in central Mexico.  They had captured Uruapan in Michoacan but were soon forced to evacuate as French-backed loyalist forces advanced.  A unit of these surprised a group of forty Republicans and killed fifteen of them, including the legendary leader Manuel Garcia Pueblita, the current Republican governor of Michoacan.
