Dickinson College 1860 graduate Captain John Henry Grabill, CSA, is captured at Brandy Station

In the early hours of the Battle of Brandy Station, near Beverly, Virginia, John Henry Grabill, Dickinson College class of 1860, and captain of Company E, 35th Battallion, Virginia Cavalry, was captured by Union General John Buford's cavalrymen.  The 35th, known as "White's Comanches" after their distinct battle cries and their colonel, Elijah Veirs White, suffered badly during the battle but later joined the invasion of Pennsylvania.  Grabill, though, had lost his chance to revisit the places of his college years and he spent until February 1865 as a prisoner.  (By John Osborne)
