Abundant Canadian harvest celebrated with a day of thanksgiving across the country

A national day of thanksgiving called by the Governor-General for the abundant agricultural harvest in the country is celebrated all over Canada.  The harvest of 1858 had been very poor and had caused much suffering, so the rebound for Canada's foodstuffs was doubly welcome.  (By John Osborne)
