Face of the country beautifully diversified with mountains and rich valleys; soil fertile, especially on the rivers. Seat of justice, Hartford. Pop. in 1810, 44,733; in 1820, 47,264; in 1830, 51,141; in 1840, 55,629; in 1850, 69,966.
