CHESTERFIELD DISTRICT, situated on the north boundary of South Carolina, Great Pedee river, and Lynch creek. Area, 750 square miles. Face of the country hilly; soil sandy and generally of fair quality. Seat of justice, Chesterfield Court House. Pop. in 1820, 6,645; in 1830, 17,182; in 1840, 8,574; in 1850, 10,790.
