CHESHIRE COUNTY, situated at the southwest corner of New Hampshire, on the easterly side of Connecticut river. Area, 442 square miles. Face of the country mountainous and hilly; soil generally rocky, but productive and well watered. Seat of justice, Keene. Pop. in 1820, 45,376; in 1830, 27,016; in 1840, 26,429; in 1850, 28,344.
