    Bloomington, Ills

    Augt 16, '58--

    My Dear Sir.

If Lincoln comes home tonight or in the morning, telegraph me-- I want to see him before his Peoria meeting 19th & will go meet him at Springfield or elsewhere that he appoints--

I want to tell him particularly about Tazewell-- I was there, last Saturday & Sunday. & have got the hang of things pretty well -- & must see Lincoln--

Tazewell Co. must be attended to -- and I can in person tell Lincoln exactly how the state of things, -- & what must be done--

I have pretty much agreed that he Lincoln will have a rousing meeting at Tremont the 30th of the month-- It is absolutely necessary for him-- They want to hear him-- Trumbulls speech at Chicago & Lincoln's second speech at Springfield ought to be circulated in Tazewell--

Tazewell is far from safe & looks blue -- but can be carried, by prudence, energy & work-- Any man that has the taint of abolition about him must not go to Tazewell

    Yr frd

    D Davis

P S-- Cant Did not Lincoln leave word with his wife, or Bill Herndon where he wd be between now & his meeting at Peoria 19th

P S-- The Democrats (Douglass[Douglas]) have bought out Pickett's press in Pekin, & there is now no opposition paper in that County--
