SUPPLIES FOR THE ARMY IN UTAH. – There seems to be a slight discrepancy between the statements of the philosophers of the Tribune and the elders of the Mormon church. The other day we printed extracts from the discourses of the latter, warning the faithful at Salt Lake against the dangers of famine; and it appears by all accounts that the Mormon harvest this year will be barely sufficient to support the people through the winter, without any margin for sales to the Gentiles, civil or military. But, in the face of these facts, which do not come from Gentile contractors, but from Mormon sources entirely, the Tribune states that the government might save a million of dollars by buying the ordinary supplies in Utah instead of sending them from the East. Perhaps the Tribune will explain how the government can buy from the people of Utah something which they have not got to sell, and how they can feed an army out of a crop barely sufficient for their own wants.
