THE COLORED PEOPLE AND JOHN BROWN’S WIDOW. – The colored people of Detriot recently addressed a letter of condolence to the widow of JOHN BROWN, inclosing a contribution of $25. Mrs. BROWN’S response was as follows:

NORTH ELBA. Dec. 27, 1859.

To the individuals composing the Committee, through whom and by whom expressions of sympathy and charity have been made to me and mine, in view of our bereavement and affliction: Much beloved and respected friends - To you, and through you, to all lovers of equal rights in your vicinity, and more especially to those who, by their contributions, remember the widow and fatherless, we would hereby make our expression of gratitude and good-will, thanking you most sincerely for so clear an expression of your good-will to use in the free contribution of ($25) twenty-five dollars, which we hereby acknowledge. Hoping ever to remain your sincere friend,
