Stephen Douglas continued his punishing and unprecedented campaign schedule in upstate New York with a visit to Rochester. He arrived from Syracuse by train and spoke in the afternoon to a crowd of thousands in Washington Square. That night torch-lit processions made there way through the downtown and bonfires reportedly burned at the main intersections. From Rochester, Douglas moved on to Niagara Falls, New York.
