In Indiana, the Breckinridge Democrats meet in a state convention in Indianapolis

Although most Democratic opinion in Indiana was in favor of the Douglas ticket, a Breckinridge Democrat State Convention was held in Indianapolis.  The convention decided not to run a state ticket but reaffirmed the rights of slaveholders in the territories and endorsed Breckinridge.  On a conciliatory note, it voted to approach Douglas forces with a proposal to unify the state's electoral vote behind the Democrat garnering most votes in November.  (By John Osborne)
