The McClintock Riot trial is held in Carlisle, Pennsylvania

John McClintock and twenty-six African-American citizens of Carlisle went on trial in Carlisle, Pennsylvania in connection with the slave-catcher riot that had erupted two months before and resulted in the death of a Maryland slaveholder. McClintock and thirteen of the citizens were acquitted. Ten others, all black, were be fined and imprisoned until the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned their convictions on appeal soon after.
