PHILADELPHIA JEALOUSY. – The jealously of Philadelphia has been excited by the circumstance of there being so many New York lawyers engaged in the Sickles trial, while there is not one Philadelphian. The Evening Journal, published in that ambitious village, says:
“The correspondents of the New York papers mention with great [fidelity?] [every?] indication of applause, and are at much pains to inform the public of favorable opinions which prevail of the eloquence, &c., of the defendant’s lawyers. Judging from the very full reports brought by telegraph, there would seem to be no occasion for all this laudation. Our ordinary trials elicit as good puns as Mr. Brady has yet made.”
This is touching Philadelphia on one of her raw spots. She values herself as much on her puns and lawyers, as she has always done on her [illegible] and butter. If Mr. BRADY accidentally made a pun, he was not aware, we presume, that he would have the ill luck to excite the envy of his brethren of the bar in the right-angled city.
