The Illinois Democratic State Convention met in Springfield to make their state nominations, choose presidential electors, and endorse the candidacy of Stephen Douglas for president. Representing every county except Calhoun, the delegates nominated James C. Allen for governor and Lewis C. Rass for lieutenant-governor. Like Douglas, neither were to win in November.
