The royal party reached Philadelphia in the early evening and took rooms in the Continental Hotel.  He toured the city and attended the opera in a special performance of Friedrich von Flotow's romantic and comic opera Martha given by the musicians and singers of the Academy of Music from New York, especially brought in for the event. On October 11, 1860, the Prince left for New York City, arriving there by cutter from Amboy, New Jersey. (By John Osborne)
